A Strong Resemblance

The Vongola Familiga was originally founded as a vigilante group created to defend people who couldn't defend themselves. The first generation of the Vongola family was dedicated to this purpose and to their leader. Each member came from a unique background and only through their bonds were they able to become successful. Tsuna and his family all share an uncanny resemblance to their first generation counterparts.

The first rain guardian was Asari Ugetsu, a Japanese musician whose attire suggests he was a nobleman in the Imeperial Court during the Heian Period. Unlike Tsuna's guardians who are either Japanese, Italian, or both in origin; the Primo's guardians were from around the world and Yamamoto is the only one whose heritage completely matches that of his first generation counterpart.

Since all of the first generation is long desceased most of what we know about their personalities is based on the few times their spirits appear or descriptions passed down through generations. Both Yamamoto and Ugetsu are men of considerable talent who find themselves torn between the hobby they loved and the path of the sword. For Yamamoto it is baseball while for Ugetsu it was music. Despite their attachments to other worlds, they both made the decision to defend their friends when push came to shove by choosing the sword over their respective hobbies.

While both Yamamoto and Ugetsu are friendly and easy going their mannerisms are very different. Yamamoto is excitable and hides everything behind a smile while Ugetsu appears much more subdued and apathetic by comparison. Even so, both serve as the voice of reason compared to their more volatile counterparts.

While there is no solid proof that Yamamoto Takeshi and Asari Ugetsu share anything but a passing similarity, it is also possible they could be related. After a forced retirement, the Vongola Primo, Giotto moves to Japan. At that time his guardians dispersed and Ugetsu presumably returned to his homeland as well. While it would be completely unrealistic that the two are related, there is evidence in the dojo owned by Yamamoto's family is named "Asarigumi" or "Asari Clan".
